US giant Williams-Sonoma to claim stake in UK market

By KBBDaily on 30th April 2013 - 14:00pm

Upmarket US home furnishings and cookware giant Williams-Sonoma is expected to announce its entrance into the UK market with a new store on London's Tottenham Court Road, as part of an expansion process that is also believed to include stores in Australia.

Williams-Sonoma sells internationally – including to the UK – through its online platform, and has a product roster that includes brands such as KitchenAid, Miele and Cuisinart small electronics and La Cornue stoves. A multi-channel retailer in the US, it has over 250 stores and a direct-mail catalogue business in addition to its e-commerce website.

Financial results for 2012 showed that 46% of its sales came from its direct-to-customers channels of e-commerce and catalogue.

Back in August 2012 the retail group, which also owns West Elm and Pottery Barn furniture and home accessories chains, was reported to have hired property consultants to find sites for a British launch, however the deal did not materialise.
