Formica Group, a leading provider of commercial and residential surfacing solutions and manufacturer of High Pressure Laminate, is among this year’s winners of the prestigious German Design Awards. The awards, which celebrate unique design trends and promote innovation within the global design community, saw Formica Group receive recognition for its Paper Terrazzo, a new decorative surface combining a sustainability focus with the trend-forward look of Terrazzo.

Joining the increasing drive for designers around the world to utilise waste products that might otherwise go to landfill, Formica’s Paper Terrazzo uses waste from paper manufacturing. Each sheet of Paper Terrazzo high pressure laminate (HPL) is unique, making use of 30% reclaimed paper material chipped and added to the regular pulp in a small batch craft paper-making process.
The jury commented: “The idea to recycle paper waste in the form of small shreds as the basis for a terrazzo look décor was implemented very well. The HPL impresses with ever-new, never-repeating patterns and a unique, striking aesthetic. An innovative product that is also a winner when it comes to sustainability.”
