Punctuality is key to hiring tradespeople

A recent survey by home services marketplace Plentific.com has found the most influential qualities that tradespeople possess that make homeowners more likely to hire them for a job, with punctuality coming out on top.

While 84% said punctuality was key, 83% also said that they were more likely to hire a tradesperson who “has a polite manner and responds promptly in communication”, while 81% said a tradesperson who is willing to talk them through the process is more likely to get hired.

However, the survey also found that appearance has less impact on a homeowner's choice to hire a tradesperson, with only 47% saying having a clean and professional-looking van would influence their decision, while only 22% said a branded uniform would make them more likely to hire.

“While all of these qualities can help a tradesman get hired, it is clear from our findings that appearances make less of an impact on a homeowner’s decisions,” said Plentific spokesperson Stephen Jury.

“Organisation is key: arriving on time, being prompt in communication and generally having a polite and positive manner will make potential clients more likely to hire a tradesman. To improve the odds of hiring, tradesmen should focus more on their schedule, process and attitude before spending their well-earned money on appearances!”
