A new survey by Häfele has revealed Britain’s least favourite kitchen chores, with cleaning the oven coming out on top by “quite some margin” with 62% of the vote, according to the furniture fittings and hardware company.

The survey – which questioned around 2,000 people – also found that cleaning the hob and washing the floor came in at second and third place with 24% and 22% of the vote, respectively, while loading the dishwasher was found to be the least hated kitchen chore with just 4%.

Häfele added that a “saintly” 6% claimed to “enjoy all kitchen chores”. The survey also asked how often various cleaning tasks were performed, with 19% saying they clean their oven less often than the recommended six months, while 6% said they never bother to do it.

Just 3% said they clean their oven every day, while 24% said they mop and sweep their kitchen floors just once a month, and 19% said they only clean their fridge every six months. “As our lives are getting busier, time is becoming increasingly precious so it’s no surprise that some kitchen tasks are taking a back seat,” said Häfele UK marketing director Chloë Thacker.

“That’s why we’re seeing rising demand for innovative solutions that can help keep homes hygienic with less time and effort, such as self-cleaning, pyrolitic ovens or plinth-mounted vacuum cleaners, which suck up swept debris, eliminating the need for dustpans and brushes.”
