Travis Perkins to sell plumbing and heating division

Travis Perkins – the owner of Wickes, Primaflow F&P, Benchmarx and Toolstation – is looking to sell its plumbing and heating division to simplify the business and focus its efforts more on “strengthening the performance of Wickes”.

The group said it hopes to capitalise on Wickes’ “clear competitive advantages” in the DIY, small trade and kitchen and bathroom markets. Travis Perkins added that it is reviewing its options to “maximise the value” of Wickes in the medium term as a predominantly consumer-focused brand.

Travis Perkins also said it will focus on its trade customers through “advantaged trade businesses in attractive markets”, noting that generalist and specialist merchant are continuing to see the largest share of industry growth “with returns remaining resilient over time”.

The group said it aims to build on the momentum in its contract merchanting businesses as well as the “continuing strong growth in Toolstation, and by reinvigorating its general merchanting businesses.

“We have developed a clear plan to focus on delivering best-in-class service to our trade customers, and to simplify the group to reduce complexity, speed up decision-making and reduce costs,” said Travis Perkins CEO John Carter.

“Our trade businesses hold strong positions in attractive markets, and these initiatives will enable us to concentrate our management time and capital in the highest returning areas,” he added.
