A new survey by Beko has found that “millions” of adults are “too busy” for cleaning and housework, with 38% of Brits believing that the seasonal practise of spring cleaning is an “old-fashioned tradition” that’s being phased out.

A third of Brits said they struggle to find time to look after their home, with half of the 2,000 adults surveyed saying they set time aside each week to clean, and three in 10 saying they only find time for housework on the weekends.

Close to half said they believe previous generations had more time for household chores. Half of those questioned said the kitchen is the room in the house that takes the longest to clean, followed by the bathroom and living room.

“With such busy modern lives, housework isn’t a priority for many of us anymore,” said Beko’s Keval Shah. “Whilst we all like to be house-proud, it’s difficult to find the time. Our new research shows that time saving is an important issue, especially with people working longer hours than in the past and enjoying busy social lives. As a result, traditional housework is taking a back seat.

“Thankfully, modern technology is helping us to save time in all aspects of our daily activities, including cleaning. The introduction of new appliances such as our AutoDose dishwasher means for up to a month you don’t have to find a tablet and pop it in your machine. Instead you can feel re-assured that your load is getting the right level of detergent every time.”
