The Furniture and Interiors Education, Skills and Training Alliance – FIESTA – is set to hold a conference on the 26th April 2019 at the Furniture Makers’ Hall in London to officially launch its new Furniture and Interiors Skills Plus service, designed to “help close the industry’s skills gap”.

The conference – taking place from 10.30am to 2pm – will appeal to “anyone with responsibility for recruitment and skills development within the kitchen industry as well as existing training providers and education institutions”, according to The Kitchen Education Trust – TKET.

Skills Plus provides a specialist apprentice recruitment service to micro and SME non-levy-paying employers to access a “much wider selection” of funded skills training, while also allowing large employers to outsource apprenticeship management.

“We are delighted to be working with the Apprentice Management Group to provide Skills Plus as a service, and look forward to showing this solution to the industry,” said FIESTA chairman and CD (UK) managing director Gary Baker.

“If you have an ageing work force, or find it challenging to recruit and retain new or existing workers, this conference is a must-attend event. Researching training providers that have funding for your training needs and understanding how to access funding all takes time. The Skills Plus solution will handle all of this and offer companies advice and guidance on the best training that is available to the sector.”

TKET chairman Craig Matson added: “We needed to get the system simplified so that the kitchen industry can take advantage of it and the scheme will be finalised by the middle of this year. I’m 100% behind this initiative and we’ll be backing it at Roundhouse, where we will be taking on an apprentice for the Level 3 Fitted Furniture Design Technician apprenticeship.”
