The Bathroom Manufacturers Association – BMA – has launched its new Ageless Design bathroom competition to “raise awareness of the importance of inclusive design and share best practice”.

The competition has three categories – full bathroom, cloakroom and ensuite – and is open to all bathroom retailers, architects and designers, with the winners set to be announced at the BMA’s 2019 Bathroom & Kitchen Business Conference, taking place in Cheshire on the 8th October.

Those who enter will be required to design a bathroom “in accordance with all relevant regulations, using products available from BMA members, with CE-marked and Unified Water Label products as appropriate”, the BMA said.

“We want to encourage designers to create bathrooms that are beautiful and functional, ensuring that the room meets the needs of all the family, regardless of age or ability,” said BMA CEO Yvonne Orgill.

“We have an ageing population and more families are living together with multi generations in one home. The modern bathroom has to deliver a space that works for all, ensuring that all those that use the room can wash and undertake personal hygiene with ease and enjoyment.”

The winner of each category will receive a trophy and certificate, while the overall winner will also take home a £1,000 cash prize. Entries close on the 30th August 2019.
