Entries for the eighth edition of the Surface Design Awards have now opened with two new categories and a judging panel co-chaired by Paul Priestman from PriestmanGoode and Amin Taha from Groupwork.

The winners of the awards will be announced on the 13th February 2020 during the Surface Design Show at the Business Design Centre in London. After entries close on the 27 September 2019, a shortlist will be selected for each of the nine categories.

Alongside the existing categories – namely Commercial Building (Interior and Exterior), Light + Surface (Interior and Exterior), Housing (Interior and Exterior), Public Building (Interior and Exterior), Retail Building (Interior and Exterior), Sustainable Surfaces (Interior and Exterior) and Temporary Structures – the two new categories for 2020 are Affordable Housing and Public Realm.

Judges Priestman and Taha will be joined by Nikki Barton from British Airways, Sean Griffiths from Modern Architect, Charles Holland from Charles Holland Architects, Glenn Johnson from Collins Aerospace, Daniel Mota Veiga from KEF/GP Acoustics, and Steve Webb from Webb Yates Engineers.

Alongside each category winner, the judges will also pick a Supreme Winner. Last year’s awards saw more than 197 entries from 22 different countries. The 2019 Supreme Winner was the Maggie’s Centre St Barts by Steven Holl Architects.
