Travis Perkins Plc brand Wickes has named David Wood as its new CEO, replacing Simon King in the top role at the company.

Wood was previously CEO of Mothercare, and has also worked as group president of Kmart in the US, as well as holding several executive and managerial roles at Tesco.

King was appointed managing director of Wickes in 2012. He was formerly COO at Asda and has also held the role of CEO for Tesco in Turkey and South Korea, as well as being Tesco’s commercial director in central Europe.

"We can confirm that David Wood took up the position as CEO for Wickes at the end of May 2019; bringing a wealth of executive retail experience to the role," said Travis Perkins CEO John Carter. "David is very excited about the future growth opportunities for the business and we are delighted to have him on board.”

In May, Travis Perkins Plc said Wickes saw like-for-like sales growth of 10.5% in the first quarter of 2019 after a challenging 2018, with its kitchen and bathroom showroom sales growing during the period after being “hard hit” the previous year.
