Wellingborough-based worktop and bathroom panel manufacturer Bushboard has recruited several ex-military personnel for some key appointments in the company, with HR manager Lindy Tegg saying the company used an agency that specialises in ex-military job seekers.

Former RAF weapons engineer Lee Palmer, pictured top right, has been appointed a quality engineer. Palmer served for more than 20 years, and carried out tours to all high-profile combat zones including Northern Ireland, the Falklands and Afghanistan.

“Working on complex and demanding projects for the Harrier Squadron, Bomb Disposal and on engineering ejection seats was an amazing and challenging career,” Palmer said. “It’s great to know Bushboard recognise the value of such high quality, but transferable skills.”

Alan Ball, bottom left, who was an advance Javelin operator in the artillery, has been appointed technical manager at Bushboard. “I was based in Germany and England during my 3.5 years in the Army,” he said. “Being in the Army gave me discipline and strength and loyalty in my early years and these qualities are still are a strong part of my life today and are positives that I can bring to my job.”

Samuel Gorf, pictured bottom right, served in the Royal Navy for eight years as a weapons engineer looking after sonar, radar and communications systems on four different ships, as well as sailing on anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden. He has been appointed as a maintenance engineer.

Lastly, Gary Bannister, top left, spent 16 years with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, who look after the Army’s vehicles. He has been appointed as lean practitioner, having previously been automotive production manager with the REME.
