A number of free training resources have been launched to help plumbers and engineers who are currently out of work.
The resources, published by the Boiler Guide, cater for both existing and aspiring plumbers and heating engineers.

They include trade-specific modules such as an ‘Introduction to Plumbing Tools and Drawings’ and ‘Understanding Drainage and Water Distribution Systems’, as well as business-specific guides for those who want tips on how to run their business.
For those who want to learn how to promote their business to potential new customers, a range of free digital marketing modules through Google and training courses are available alongside accountancy and customer service sections.
David Holmes, Founder at Boiler Guide, said: ‘We recognise it is a really tough time for installers across the country and we wanted to create a resource that could provide useful advice and support for those that are stuck at home and want to develop their wider skills.’
Research from the Gas Safe Register suggests that over half of the UK’s current cohort will retire within the next ten years so it’s critical that major installers and networks continue to invest in apprenticeships and training opportunities to attract younger staff for the future of the sector.
‘This guide provides an array of free resources that can teach you something new about your trade-specific skills, or if you just want to learn some new ways on how to grow your business. It doesn’t matter if you have been working in the trade for a few months or a few decades!
‘Now is also a great time to be encouraging school leavers to be thinking about heating engineering as a possible career option and I hope these resources could provide a little taster into some of the skills of the job.’
