The electric car is the first in a series of environmentally-friendly vehicles that HiB will lease over the next 12 months. The project, led by HiB’s Fleet Manager Craig Turner, aims to achieve a target of 15% of company’s car fleet being electric by mid-2021, with a view to increase it to more than 20% by 2022.

The investment is central to HiB’s wider focus on Corporate Social Responsibly and reducing the business’s environmental impact. Previously HiB installed state-of-the-art solar panels to its 85,000sq.ft distribution site at Birch Coppice in Tamworth and has installed LED lighting across its sites.

Operations Director Neil Berry, who is the proud owner of the new car, said: ‘We’re delighted to have taken delivery of the first electric vehicle to our fleet of cars. The new Volkswagen E Golf is the first of many HiB will lease as part of our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and help to save the environment for future generations.

At HiB, we have a dedicated CSR team who actively seek opportunities to reduce emissions, lower the consumption of natural resources and manage waste conscientiously. Looking after the environment, our people and the wider community is at the heart of our company vision and as we grow we want to continue our aim to become even greener across the company.’
