Coming to a high street near you...
Posted 14th Nov 2013
It's always good news when an initiative you support starts to take shape, and that's the reason why the KBSA is so excited by the approach of the UK's first Small Business Saturday.
Confirmed for 7th December, the KBSA is behind the initiative all the way – after all, anything that draws attention, and people, to the high street has to be a good thing.
With the backing of President Obama, the Small Business Saturday campaign began in the US in 2010, and has so far driven more than £3.5bn in sales for small businesses. The UK event has the backing of David Cameron, numerous corporate firms, and individual entrepreneurs such as Dragons' Den star James Caan.
To celebrate, we've launched a prize draw offering our retail members the chance to win a festive hamper that encourages them to submit and share their plans. This prize draw is designed to mirror Small Business Saturday's national Facebook page, which currently has more than 2,500 likes.
It's not a great effort to get involved, and the rewards could be worthwhile, so I'm encouraging everyone to visit the Facebook page, and sign up.
Also, don't forget the Independent Chirstmas campaign – www.indiechristmas.co.uk or #IndieXmas on Twitter – which runs for the six weeks leading to Christmas Day. I know that some members got involved in the Easter campaign, so this is another opportunity to engage with your local community and boost trade.
