Spa bathrooms are the top home trend for 2018

Posted 18th Jan 2018

The top home trend for 2018, according to Pinterest's annual 100 report, is resort-inspired, spa-inspired bathrooms. Yippee – bathrooms have topped the list – we're no longer an afterthought or a side to show to the kitchen industry.

The trend report forecasts the global trends for the year to come. It revealed in December 2017 100 of the top trends to inspire people from fashion and interior design to food and travel, of which we came top.

Analysing what Pinterest users are searching for and saving around the world and across a range of categories, the image-sharing site can predict the mainstream trends.

Number two on the list is 'metallics'. They complement many colours and mixing different finishes together adds an extra stylish element to home décor, according to the site. We can already see this trend emerging in the new designs being launched by tap and shower manufacturers. Think rose gold, brushed nicked, brushed brass, etc. Think taps, door handles and bathroom accessories.

• Saves for 'mixed metals' are up +423%

With the growth of personal wellbeing, people are viewing their bathroom as a very personal space; a place to retreat and unwind, or refresh and invigorate. Coupled with the increase in holidaying at spas and hotels, where they get the opportunity to experience the luxury of the most amazingly designed bathrooms, it comes as no surprise that they want to recreate the look at home and that spa-inspired bathrooms is the top home trend.

So how can bathroom showrooms capitalise on this? My take on it is this: make your showroom on-trend with more inspirational and aspirational displays by following the current fashions for home and bathroom interiors – but don't be a slave to them. And this is where bathroom accessories, mirrors, lighting, tiles and finishing touches such as towels, plants, pictures and candles can elevate a bathroom setting from ordinary to on-trend spa-extraordinary.
