Kitchen colour trends for 2018
Posted 14th Mar 2018
Kitchens have secured their place as the home’s central hub – the hub of cooking, socialising, and relaxing. The executive director of Pantone Colour Institute stated how important colour is for kitchens with this statement:
“The kitchen is absolutely a key place for colour. It’s the place where people gather, so it’s apt to have some mixing and matching of colours to create high energy.”
Pantone’s colour of 2018 is ultra violet. Pantone believes the colour to be much more than what is trending in the world of design. It sees the choice of ultra violet as a true reflection of what’s needed in the world today: boldness – and this is something we will see a lot more of in 2018.
The concept of bold statement colours will be trending in 2018, specifically due to most kitchen appliances being basic black, white or silver. Bold colours will be used to complement dark cabinet colours and metallic interior-designed kitchens. Many kitchens suffer from shortage of space, but this can be redeemed thanks to adding splashes and bursts of bold colours to give the illusion of more kitchen space.
Another 2018 trend to look out for is two-tone. Two-tone colour schemes offer beautiful juxtapositions and provide that wow-factor when showing off kitchens. Two-tone palettes don’t have to be totally contrasting, either. Using two shades of the same colour will give you the desired effect.
2018 is all about blending boldness and beauty together: achieve a cosy, contemporary feel by layering two or more colours. Kitchens never looked so good.
