British bathroom and tile supplier, Cubico UK Ltd, has announced that it is currently holding £25million worth of products at its 165,000 sq. ft. distribution centres.
The announcement comes from Cubico’s sales director, Scott Tattersley, amid global supply chain shortages, which have seen many suppliers struggling to source thousands of product lines.
In its most recent statement, Cubico explained that it stocked up heavily in the first quarter of the year, to pre-empt demand following the kbb Birmingham exhibition. The stock is now available to the UK’s independent retailers, and the company maintains that it is observing guidelines set by the government, with all employees wearing PPE and working a safe distance from each other.
Commenting on the industry, Tattersley said: ‘There is no business in our sector which is not being affected by the coronavirus pandemic, with global lockdowns hugely impacting on the supply of goods. We have spoken to many independent retailers who are worried about the impact the shortage of products is having on their business now – particularly from those who are still operating online.
‘There are also worries that, once the closed suppliers open back up, there will be a huge surge in demand, but little supply, meaning that their prices may increase.
‘We want to support retailers during this difficult time, so we have a dedicated line to ensure that their enquiries are handled quickly and efficiently. We are confident there will be a big demand for bathrooms when lockdown is lifted, and we want to keep as many independent showrooms across the UK alive.’
