The Head of Marketing at Methven UK, a global manufacturer of award-winning showers, taps and valves, has named ‘moody tones’, statement lighting and metallics as some of the top trends to emerge in 2020 bathroom design. Simon Cornelius, who suggested that 2020 will be an ‘exciting year’ for bathroom trends after a year dominated by industrial yet minimalist designs, also added that large, statement mirrors would also be on the rise in 2020 consumer bathrooms, despite the fact that UK bathrooms are the smallest in Europe.

“Moody tones are set to take over, with the gothic look anticipated to be at the forefront of both bathroom and kitchen design for 2020” said Cornelius. “Consumers can keep the look modern and fresh by opting for accompanying textured porcelain tiles, which will also add a sense of depth.

“The use of metallic products is an exciting trend that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. A unique and versatile medium, you can find accessories that replicate almost every different type of material, therefore it comes as no surprise that designers are choosing this to create stunning metal effects throughout the home. Not only are we seeing many recently introduced ranges inspired by precious metals such as gold, silver and bronze, but there is also a huge demand for more rustic interpretations of metal, such as worn and weathered iron, copper and steel coloured products and accessories which will suit an aesthetic inspired by urban and industrial trends” he added.

Cornelius also suggested that whilst UK customers are often working within confined areas, there will also be a rise in the number of consumers opting for large, statement fixtures.

“Round mirrors have been popular in bathrooms in recent years, jostling rectangular framed mirrors out of the way. Standout, curvaceous mirrors will continue to be a trend in 2020” he advised.

“Statement lighting is a popular interior trend and the latest innovations mean that you don’t have to completely overhaul a bathroom in order to make a difference. Big chandeliers and giant floor lamps are all very much on trend for those who like their lighting to make a statement” he concluded.
