Appliance brand Smeg has acquired historic Italian coffee company La Pavoni, which is “renowned for its production of high-quality domestic and professional espresso coffee machines”.

La Pavoni – which was founded in 1905 and is based in Milan – was the world’s first producer of the modern espresso bar coffee machine, according to Smeg.

The appliance company said the acquisition is a “strategic move” for both brands, allowing the two companies to share “industry know-how and continue to create beautifully designed products while reinforcing the strength of a ‘Made in Italy’ ethos”.
